Cycling Pigs

Here is where you can learn about the individual authors here at Cyclingpigs. This is a group effort and the experiences of our members are varied. Currently we have three contributing authors who will be described by themselves here briefly:

David Godden

I am a native of Iowa but having moved to California while still a little piglet I have often thought of going back ‘home’. The RAGBRAI bicycle ride is a great excuse to do just that. Bicycle riding is something that my brother John and I have been doing for most of our lives. When we were little kids living in New York we would take our old bicycles and ride out to Long Island sometimes getting lost but always having adventures. Since those early days John and I have ridden together often. Today John is a very strong rider and I have trouble keeping up with him but no matter we still love to get out for a spin.

I am married to a wonderful woman of Chinese descent. Currently she is in China visiting her parents for the New Year so I have a moment to write. We are buying a house which is in escrow currently and the work there is just about to begin. There will be a few projects starting soon so I will have to balance those with the need to increase my bicycle mileage - hahahahah!

Currently I am working as a Nurse Anesthetist for a large county medical center. Here is where I do my thing putting people to sleep for general surgical procedures, trauma or GYN stuff. We get plenty of pediatric patients in our practice and occasionally I will work in obstetrics. I love my job.

Juli Kennedy

I’m Juli Kennedy. I am another author on this site. I purchaed my first road bike in 2001. At that time, I road mostly by myself for exercise. I was picked up by Stan of Stan’s Monrovia Bikes, on a road in the San Gabriel Valley. I have been riding with his group ever since. I entered my first Century in 2004. I did it on a tandum. I did one other century that year. From then on I was hooked. RAGBRAI here I come.

I am a married mother of two grown sons. One of my sons, Kyle, is also a cyclist. He will not be joining us at RAGBRAI thi year. My husband is supportive of my cycling adventures. I am sponsored by Santa Fe Packing Co. I will be riding 6 Century wearing their colors this year including El Tour de Tucson.

When I am not riding, I am employed as a teacher in the San Gabriel Valley. I teach physical education to children with special needs. (Adapted Physical Education). I also love to sing. I sing with the Anglican Chorale of Southern California. This summer we will be touring the East Coast. (NYC, DC, and Philly).

Somehow, I manage to fit everything in.
